Thanks to Natasha over at Live Learn Venture I had the honour of being nominated for the Liebster Award.
If you don’t know what the Liebster Award is, let me explain it to you: It’s pretty much an award given to bloggers by other bloggers. It’s a way of discovering other (and new) blogs as well as giving them a bit of recognition.
You are given 11 questions by the person who nominated you, and after you have answered them, you come up with a new set of questions that you pass on to the bloggers you choose to nominate.
Pretty cool, right?
So here are my Liebster Award questions and answers:
1: What’s your favourite travel memory?
Aah, that one is super easy! It was definitely my trip to New York back in the day.
It was a present from my mum and she had saved and saved so she could make this trip absolutely fantastic for me. And it really was.
I watched a New York Knicks basket ball match at the Madison Square Garden. I had hot dogs in Central Park. I drove through Harlem. Got lost on the Subway. Bought a homeless man coffee. And I had a haircut at a luxury salon on 5th Avenue, known for having customers such as Paris Hilton and Sarah Jessica Parker.
It was the best week of my life and I still remember it like it was yesterday.
2: If you could move abroad, where do you think you’d choose to live?
Well, I actually already live abroad. As most of you know, I have been an expat in England for the past four years.
But if I had to choose another country, it would definitely be Italy.
I have this dream of living in a small villa out in the Tuscany countryside. I’ll spend my days sitting on the porch, enjoying the view of the the rolling hills as I write down my memoirs of all of my adventures.
That’s a pretty awesome dream if you ask me.
3: What is the best place you’ve ever visited?
4: How did you survive a terrible travel experience?
In my opinion, a terrible travel experience is something that involves flying. I have a terrible fear of flying that doesn’t seem to go away.
Think positive. Deep breaths. Stay calm.
5: What is your favourite travel-related quite and why?
Can I only pick one? That’s not fair.
A while ago I wrote a blog post about my top 10 travel quotes of all time, but if I had to choose one, I’d probably pick this one:
“If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there” – Lewis Carroll
6: How do you balance travel and blogging?
At the moment I’m mostly just managing work and blogging as I haven’t left for my trip around the world yet (but it’s getting closer and closer!). And that is flipping stressful! It’s 10-12 hours a day at my day job and then 5-6 hours of blogging, networking and freelance work in the evening.
But I’m looking forward to leaving it all behind and hit the road soon.
7: What is your one favourite food or drink that you’ve had abroad?
Is it allowed to say wine? White wine? Yes? It’s wine. It’s always wine.
8: What do you always bring with you when travelling?
Spare batteries for my Samsung smartphone! I’m actually serious. If you knew how many times I’ve run out of battery while I’ve been travelling. Nothing annoys me more.
Now I always make sure I have a spare battery fully charged in my bag. And just because I’m always so prepared, I also bring my wireless charger with me, just in case.
I’m always on my phone. I’m pretty sure I’m a social media addict. Hello Instagram!
I also couldn’t live without my recently purchased Panasonic Lumix camera. If you, like me, can’t afford or won’t spend loads of money on a fancy DSLR, then the Panasonic one is perfect for you. And you want to know what’s so cool about it? It has a flip up screen! It’s perfect for selfies and when you take pictures of yourself using a tripod.
9: What is the one thing that you’ve learned from another culture that you will continue to carry with you throughout life?
This one is hard. Can I return to that one later?
10: How do you budget for travelling?
It just so happens that I wrote a kick-ass article about how I’m saving up money to travel the world, and I just updated it recently.
Basically what I’m doing is, I put travel as my priority and then I work hard every single day to reach my goal.
If you want something really bad, you will get it if you work hard enough.
11: What’s the best thing you’ve learned while travelling?
That I can make it on my own.
